Classroom Management
Do you find that you are struggling with effective classroom management? We all know that we want dance to be fun and creative, but sometimes it’s easy to give into the aspect of fun and then lose a sense of structure along the way. Dance classes, whether for beginners or advanced students, require a balance between structure and creativity.
Clear and concise instructions, along with positive reinforcement, promote a supportive atmosphere where dancers feel encouraged to take risks and explore their artistic expression. Managing diverse skill levels and personalities requires adaptability and a keen understanding of each student's unique learning styles. Ultimately, a well-managed dance classroom not only enhances technical proficiency but also nurtures creativity, self-confidence, and a lifelong appreciation for the art of dance.
As educators, we should strive to maintain a safe and creative environment where students can mold their own identities. The classroom should be a place of self-discovery where everyone is free to find their inner voice.
With this coaching session, you will be able to share some of the classroom management hurdles that
you are trying to find solutions for. You will be given several strategies to implement based on your
unique classroom environments. You will also receive a follow-up progress check-in for support.

Cross Curricular Dance Education for K-12 Teachers
When teachers collaborate with one another, the overall impact that they have on their students’ learning is heightened exponentially. Students begin to link cross curricular concepts together and make strong connections that will enhance their learning in and out of the classroom. Many times, as dance educators, we find that we must advocate for ourselves, but through collaboration and building connections with administration, colleagues, and students, we expand our circle of advocacy and are able to share the joy of dance with a broader demographic.
This coaching experience will explore new and creative ways to integrate dance fundamentals into the general education classrooms. Participants will discuss the importance of teacher/student collaboration, what this looks like in the classroom, how to begin the process in the K-12 setting, and explore how to create cross curricular lessons with colleagues. What would a collaborative lesson look like between a dance teacher and a history teacher? What cross curricular concepts could be shared between dance and biology? Participants will explore a variety of cross curricular classroom collaborations that have been integrated in K-12 classrooms to help give a better understanding of how implementation can work. Empowering educators to work with one another is the first step to create meaningful lessons for students that will enhance their 21st Century learning skills and instill the desire to be lifelong learners.

I have had the pleasure of working with Angela as a fellow teacher and most recently as her administrator. Since 2018, Angela has left an indelible mark on Summit Public School: Tamalpais by crafting an inclusive dance curriculum and catering to diverse student needs. From designing comprehensive courses for grades 6-12, including courses approved for the visual and performing arts (VPA) subject area for the California State University and University of California A-G admissions requirements, her commitment to student success and innovation shines through. Angela was also able to seamlessly transition to remote teaching during the pandemic and keep students highly engaged.

Dean of Culture and Instruction

We have had Angela visit our studio several times for both workshops and to teach choreography. She has always excelled and surpassed our expectations in both areas! Her classes are insightful and so much fun for our dancers. They always leave her workshops with knowledge gained, improved skills, and most of all an excitement for dance!

I not only had the pleasure of being a student of Angela’s and experiencing her curriculum first hand but also as a colleague. I have seen the dedication she has to her students and the art of dance. I also had the honor of taking over the Richlands High School dance program that Angela created from the ground up. By applying the skills, knowledge, and dance curriculum I had learned from her, I was able to take her already successful program and keep growing it. Angela ignited my love for teaching and taught me the tools I needed to be a successful teacher. You won’t be disappointed!

I have been working along side Angela Wentworth for 6 years now. Over the years, I have witnessed Mrs. Wentworth design engaging curriculum that young people buy into, choreograph countless dance routines for young people, sell out venues for her dance showcases, and even choreograph the dance routine for my wedding. As a black male educator from the south side of Chicago, what I find most admirable about Mrs. Wentworth is her ability to connect with a diverse array of students in authentic ways. She truly is able to get young people out of their comfort zones and try something new like dance.
Gregory Brookins Hinton

For thirteen years, I had the privilege of having Angela as a competitive and recreational dance instructor at my studio. Her creative energy, and dedication to dance with a strong collaborative work ethic is unmatched. Angela radiates positivity with each step she takes. Our students, parents, and other staff members continue to highly compliment the impact she made on our studio. You and your dancers will see immediate results after working with her. I can’t recommend working with Angela enough! You will not regret it!
